Our Story

The geopolitical and economic landscape has shifted dramatically in recent years. Events such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, rising conflicts in regions such as Gaza and South Asia, and escalating trade tensions have redefined the principles of globalisation. While the future global framework aspires toward openness and shared prosperity, increasing geopolitical rivalry has constrained individual freedoms and economic integration. These challenges underscore the urgent need for a new model of resilient, collaborative, and inclusive growth — one that aligns with the vision and mission of the ASCA.

In response to these transformations, the ASCA was initiated by leading African municipalities, including Casablanca, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Dakar during the Smart City Expo New York in May 2024. Subsequently, the inaugural ASCA Summit was hosted by Kisumu County, Kenya, on August 21, 2025, marking a historic milestone in African urban cooperation. During this event, 16 African cities and regions officially launched the ASCA, joined by government and nonprofit organisations from India, the UK, and the USA. Kisumu County was designated as the chair city, and H.E. Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, the Governor of Kisumu County, became the first Chairman of ASCA. This landmark alliance unites more than 20 African cities and rural regions under a shared framework of innovation, cooperation, and strategic development.

Early Cancer Detection Programme

The ASCA Early Cancer Detection Programme is a pilot regional healthcare initiative that will initially be implemented in the Lake Victoria regions of Kisumu, Homa Bay (Kenya), and Mwanza (Tanzania).

The programme aims to improve access to early cancer screening, community awareness, and preventive healthcare services through strategic partnerships with local governments, hospitals, universities, and international healthcare organisations.

By integrating mobile screening services, AI-supported diagnostic technologies, healthcare training, and cross-border medical collaboration, ASCA seeks to establish a sustainable model for early cancer detection and community-based healthcare development across East Africa.

Non-invasive Blood Test

Establish a lab in Nairobi and test more than 100,000 residents in the Lake Victoria region annually to detect cancer patients early and lower the mortality rate.

Donations of Medical Equipment

Build a platform to receive sponsorship from developed countries for cancer-related diagnostic equipment and treatments essential to the process from diagnosis to treatment, while conducting continuous training and education for medical personnel.

Pharmaceutical manufacturing Unit

Manufacture medicines absolutely necessary for cancer patients, such as anticancer drugs, locally in conjunction with the Cancer Centre to be established in the future.

H.E. Prof. Peter Anyang' Nyong'o

Chairman of the ASCA

Governor Nyong'o is a Kenyan politician and author who is the Governor of Kisumu County, Kenya. He is a former Secretary-General of Orange Democratic Movement. He was the acting party leader when Raila Odinga was in the US and was elected to the National Assembly of Kenya in the December 2007 parliamentary election, representing the Kisumu Rural Constituency. He was the Minister for Medical Services and previously the Minister for Planning & National Development.

ASCA-RSVC CoE

The ASCA-RSVC Center of Excellence (CoE) is a collaborative initiative between ASCA and India’s RuTAGe Smart Village Center (RSVC) aimed at promoting smart village innovation, sustainable development, technology transfer, education, and community empowerment across Africa through practical, scalable, and locally adaptable solutions.

It provides a tech sandbox environment dedicated to technological advancements, fostering linkages that enhance livelihood opportunities, and focuses on the experimentation and development of innovative solutions that can be disseminated to benefit communities.

Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of Indi

In his speech during the OXYGEN Summit, Dr. Ajay Kumar Sood, the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India, emphasized the vital role of healthcare transformation in enhancing smart city infrastructure and fostering innovation ecosystems. He also discussed how these advancements are crucial for promoting sustainable development, not only in India but also in regions like Africa, where the establishment of cancer centres can significantly improve health outcomes.
